When I was a kid in the late sixties the type of books we would study was very intense compared to the bull shit pablum that they put out today?Actually, the opposite is true! The pablum are the old books and congregation book studies that were written by Russell, Rutherford and Fred Frantz. Today, the Society has no choice but to dumb down their reading material.
Here is one congregation book study material that would never be studied today:
Impressive book study ( my first congregation book study ) in the 1970's about cherubs, flying swords, rotted bones and flesh, the fall of the United Nations, the fall of Christendom and the attack on the true religion, ''Jehovah's Witnesses.''
The book left no doubt that Armageddon was imminent and that only Jehovah's Witnesses would survive. It was scary to read that after surviving Armageddon, all surviving Jehovah's witnesses would have years of work, burying dead flesh and bones.
Today, you would see this book as just fantasy, unrealistic, far-fetched, make believe and completely foolish, with hyperbole claims.

3 The day came when Cain brought a gift of the fruit of the ground to the Lord. 4 But Abel brought a gift of the first-born of his flocks and of the fat parts. The Lord showed favor to Abel and his gift. 5 But He had no respect for Cain and his gift. So Cain became very angry and his face became sad. 6 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why are you looking down? 7 Will not your face be happy if you do well? If you do not do well, sin is waiting to destroy you. Its desire is to rule over you, but you must rule over it.”
8 Cain told this to his brother Abel. And when they were in the field, Cain stood up against his brother Abel and killed him.
9 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” And he said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” 10 The Lord said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to Me from the ground. 11 Now you are cursed because of the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 When you work the ground, it will no longer give its strength to you. You will always travel from place to place on the earth.”
Sometimes you stand back and you wonder how you ever believed any of these Bible stories. Genesis has direct quotes that Jehovah asks Cain about the whereabouts of Abel.
Who wrote down these quotes Jehovah and Cain spoke as they happened? When and where were they written down? Since ink and scrolls were not invented yet, how was this conversation recorded?

Ian Dury had a song called ''Reasons to Be Cheerful'' 1,2,3
Something nice to study, PHONING up a buddy
The JUICE of the carrot, the SMILE of the parrot
Summer, BUDDY Holly, the WORKING folly
There are many things in life that can make you happy. Here is what you said on the reasons you hate about the Jehovah's Witnesses:
Yeah, I know it's a scam, most of the people there are crazy and brainwashed, bipolar, insane, sociopaths
I don't like the idea of being back in a cult
Even though I no longer believe it in do you guys think I'm crazy for this?
I'll probably will always disagree with it
That's the hold that this group has on people. It's all mind control. They basically own you forever.
I've realized that most of them were never really my friends. I know a lot of people at the KH aren't really my friends either.
I know its a lot of hidden agendas at the kingdom hall, I know how bipolar the people are, I know there's a lot of scam artist thereI made the mistake of returning to the Kingdom Hall after 8 years. I missed my family and found that the ''world'' had many faults and dangers. I tried to fit back in the Kingdom Hall but found more lies, backbiting, pounding of ''you're never good enough'', boring meetings, cliques, more rules that I disagreed with, false teachings and promises that never came true.
I QUIT AGAIN, 10 YEARS AGO. I HATED MYSELF FOR LYING TO MYSELF THAT I BELONGED AT THE MEETINGS, WHEN I KNEW I NEEDED TO GET OUT!

I had a serious gambling problem 35 years ago. I would gamble on baseball, football and horse racing. The day before my wedding I went to the horse racing track and lost about $300. Weeks before that I lost $2500 on 3 football games. I didn't have the money and had to have my best friend get me a bank loan under his name. I eventually paid it off.
Sometimes I would be careless and leave losing horse race tickets in my car. My brother would borrow my car to take my mom and a group out in field service. They would discover the tickets and ask whose gambling tickets they belonged to. I would lie and blame it on my friend.
The most I ever won in one day was $2600 at the race track. I won a trifecta...4,3,9. I thought that after those winnings, gambling would be easy. I soon found out it wasn't. Sometimes I would lose my whole weeks paycheck in one day. On my wedding day I told myself that I had a gambling sickness and that I needed to stop. I haven't gambled since.

I guess I don't know because when my inactive father died my JW sister never bothered to call me to let me know of his passing.
How did you find out about your dad's passing?
Have you spoken to your sister since?

I have been to three different wakes/funerals where a disfellowshipped person attended with different results.
1. Ten years ago my first cousin passed away. Her disfellowshipped son was made to stand about 10 feet away from his mom's casket. He could not sit in the front row of chairs where family and friends paid their last respects. Everyone (who was a Jehovah's Witness ) refused to acknowledge him and walked away without a greeting.
2. A disfellowshipped brother's mom passed away. Everyone shook his hand to pay their condolences. He even sat in the front row. A Circuit Overseer was in town that week and he had no problem shaking the disfellowshipped brother's hand.
3. While attending a family friends wake/funeral, my two Jehovah's Witness cousins spotted a disfellowshipped brother walking up to the front row to pay his last respects. They immediately got up and walked to the back of the funeral home as soon as the disfellowshipped brother took his seat near us. I had no problem shaking his hand or having a friendly conversation with him.
I always hated the fact that the Watchtower Society and Elders take over a funeral with their rules and regulations. Never have I seen a family member (who wasn't a Jehovah's Witness) say a few kind words about the deceased at a funeral service.
